You should not expect this to be the same learning experience as the intensive Premium Yacht School Course I give aboard your Amel. This Orientation Cruise will cover most Amel systems and give you hands-on experience with most systems/operations; however, you should consider this orientation only some of what you need. It will certainly answer the questions: "Should I buy an Amel?" and "Do I like Amel yachts?"

Your actual cost for the Orientation Cruise includes the "Included" items below and varies depending on the Amel yacht chosen, the location, and other factors. The Orientation and Learning Cruise cost for a couple is less than one-half of the cost to charter a Beneteau for a week. This cost for a couple includes the "Included" items below and does not include the "Excluded" items below.

There is no intent to charge you for passage as a passenger. You are not chartering the yacht, nor will you be considered a passenger. Rather, you will be listed on the yacht's log as "crew." Since you are not chartering the yacht or a "passenger," you will sign a simply written waiver of liability. To be completely transparent, you pay me a portion of the cruise fee for the Booking with Hosts, the Learning Outline, and your certificate. You pay the remainder of the fee to the host.

The Host of the Amel used for your Orientation Cruise may provide a berth for more than a crew of two. If this fits your situation, ask.
ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BE FULLY COVID-VACCINATED.

Comment from a European Host in the Med: "The Orientation Cruise is a great idea. And even better when you are organizing it over the Yacht School learning platform. I want to be a Host and provide the Orientation Cruises with my Amel and help seriously interested future AMEL owners. My personal experience when looking to buy my Amel: It was extremely difficult to find Amel owners willing to do this. Finally, I spent 2 weeks on an SM2K and one week on a 55. That helped me a big portion to make my buying decision."

Comment from a US Host in the Caribbean: "The orientation Cruise seems to answer all questions. I would be very pleased to be part of this and am grateful for the opportunity to help those new to Amel."

Comment from a Meditteranean Orientation Cruise: My wife and I had a spectacular time with the Amel 54 Host in the Aegean.  He was a pleasure to work with, highly experienced, a gentleman, a great cook, clean and fun.  We did not expect our experience to be so educational and pleasant."

Comments from Caribbean Orientation Cruises:
"Thank you for putting this together. I’m comfortable with everything you describe here. It is exactly what I was looking for." Thank you for all you do. We that the orientation cruise is invaluable to anyone thinking of buying an Amel."

Review from an Orientation Cruise Client (owner/Hosts and client names removed for privacy reasons):
"My Orientation Cruise experience, spending a week sailing on an Amel with experienced owners, exceeded all my expectations. I was drawn to the Amel due to how well thought out they are, though that comes with a degree of complexity in all the systems aboard. Having the opportunity to see them all in use, both at anchor and during a 40+ hour passage, was invaluable as a future owner. Now knowing how to care for and repair all the systems will definitely save me time and money many times over the cost of this orientation. Not to mention all the knowledge gained not specific to the Amel; learning more about the lifestyle as a liveaboard cruiser can be daunting for anyone coming into it without any prior experience. I'm excited to be joining the extremely friendly and supportive family of Amel owners and look forward to perhaps one day having the experience and knowledge to give back by hosting an orientation cruise for a future new owner myself in a few years.

With regard to the ower-hosts, they were great and extremely knowledgeable. Thank you for connecting me with them. The owner was definitely very technical so I really enjoyed going over his Lithium install in-depth and helping him solve a few open issues he had. I also got to help him troubleshoot his bow thruster spending a good deal of time with a voltmeter sitting in the sail locker. Also wiring up an alternator disconnect in the mechanical room, and pouring over technical manuals, charts, etc. All the things that come up living on an Amel. The owner/hosts answered every question I had and they regularly reviewed the Yacht School learning outline to make sure everything was thoroughly covered. The owner/hosts took great care in making sure I was getting full value from the experience. I'd highly recommend this Orientation Cruise to anyone else interested in an Amel, I'm definitely ahead of the curve now that I've had the week on an Amel 54 but also having the owner/hosts as "Amel friends" who are willing to answer any questions that I may have about my future Amel 54. Thanks again, Bill Rouse."

Review from an Orientation Cruise Client: "Bill, I wanted to thank you for putting together this strong network of Amel owners. I was studying sailboats and I kept finding a revered reference to Amel’s sailboats and their strong community support. The knowledge that you share in your book and your leadership in connecting people is truly a life skill to be admired.

I instantly connected with Captain Dave Goodman and his Admiral Bobbi Rae. I spent a week sailing Bel Ami a 1998 Super Maramu around St. Thomas. This gave  We a chance to study every nook and cranny of Bel Ami and plenty of practice setting sails and setting the anchor. Luckily we had your outline to guide us and keep us on track. Dave’s extensive knowledge of Bel Ami’s systems and how they differ from other boats to what to make an  Amel “the Citroen of the sea”. Going through each system helped me understand the great responsibility attached to the ownership of a 53’ sailboat.

The real-life experience of the Amel Owners Yacht School could never be attained through the YachtWorld listings or YouTube. The Amel Owners Yacht School is the only simple way to test drive an Amel and see if it works for you.

I will certainly want to go through Amel Owners Yacht School again with my family once we purchase an Amel."
