ACMO stands alone as the very best rigging supplier in the world, and for over 40 years, was the exclusive rigging supplier to Amel.
ACMO will ship parts or a complete rigging kit, which includes absolutely everything you need to install new rigging. Those who have done it claim that it is a 3-day job with a good helper, or up to a 7-day job. Also, those who have bought the complete kit from ACMO say that everything is cut, swaged, and ready to install. There has been no report of wrong sizes or missing parts. You can also use a rigger to install the ACMO rigging kit. In Europe, I recommend Nicky Sammut <nickysail@hotmail.com>, owner of Nicky’s Rigging & Marine Services (https://preparetocastoff.blogspot.com/p/nicky-rigging-marine-services.html). In Florida, I recommend Chuck Ehinger <rigger119@gmail.com>, owner of Florida Rigging & Hydraulics.
I agreed with Philippe Gazzurelli, the owner of ACMO, that ACMO would give a 10% discount to any Amel owner I refer to as ACMO. He assured me that the 10% discount would be shown on the order acknowledgment and invoice from ACMO. If you want to order directly from M Gazzurelli, email him in French at philippe@acmo.fr.
I recommend specifying ACMO's new stainless steel turnbuckles with a bronze insert. Message from ACMO's owner: "For information, when installing the new bronze-ringed stainless steel turnbuckles, we have ensured that the lengths remain unchanged. So that our customers can change their turnbuckles without any worries. Owners can switch between chrome and stainless without a problem."
Amel Model owners of Super Maramu or later can order directly from ACMO, the OEM supplier, to Amel, because these models were unchanged by Amel during the production. As an example of older model issues, the Maramu had two slightly different sized masts during production.
These are the complicating issues you need to review:
- ACMO, France, made the original rig for many Amels. They certainly made the rig for SN, SM, 54, & 55. I do not know if they made the rig for models older than SM. If ACMO made your original rig, they will likely have the rigging plan.
- The rig remained the same during production for the SN, SM, 54 & 55, except for a change with the 54 in the Mainmast shrouds. ACMO has this information.
- Are you the original owner? Do you know if anything has changed since your Amel was new? Headstay, Headstay furler? Booms, Masts? Anything?
- If you know for sure that everything is the same as when new, a copy made by ACMO of what was originally made will work.
- You will likely need a Customs Broker at your receiving location to help with the customs clearance and the payment of import duty.
- ACMO may need a Commercial Business address to ship the rig to (required by French law to ship without French VAT).
If you are comfortable with all of the above, contact Duquesnoy Audrey <audrey@acmo.fr>, +33 03 81 35 70 86. Ask if they have the original rig plan for your Amel Model (Hull Number) and if they can duplicate it and ship it to you.
PEARL from ACMO: During the first months, it is necessary to clean the cables with water and mild soap because during the manufacturing process, grease is used. After the cable is installed on your boat and is under tension, a little grease may come out, and dust will stick to it! There is, therefore, the appearance of this "rust" color, which does not have any! You just have to scrub with a soft brush.
Prices of stainless steel wire in the last five years have doubled.
From the owner of ACMO:
As you rightly understand, we place great importance on the quality of our products and the origin of our materials.
All of our manufacturing is done in France, using raw materials and cables sourced exclusively from Europe. This is a deliberate choice that naturally impacts our pricing. We have always emphasized the quality of our craftsmanship, and this has been the foundation of our reputation.
Therefore, it is not an option for us to compromise on quality in response to pricing pressure. Our commitment remains to offer high-quality products and service, and that will always be our priority.
