A54 FACNOR Installation of Genoa and Staysail

Note from Bill Rouse:
I think it is poor advice from Bamar that the loop in the wiring sheath needs to be straight enabling water entering the MEJ or EJF furlers to drain into the bow locker. I believe the advice that water needs to drain has been given because Bamar never figured out how to make any of their electric furlers to be waterproof.

The Bamar EJF replaced their proven-faulty-designed MEJ. Bamar promised us that their newly designed EJF would be great.  I believe that the EJF has proven to be almost as poorly designed as their Magic Electric Jib (MEJ). It is an understatement to say that Bamar is a complete & total disappointment to me.

The only electric furlers that have a proven history of reliability are: 1.) The Amel-designed Amel Genoa furler on the Santorin and Super Maramu. 2.) The German-made Reckmann furler which Amel installed on the A55. In hindsight, Amel made a serious mistake to replace their proprietary Amel-designed Genoa furler with Bamar MEJs when the A54 was introduced. Sadly, most Amel owners will not buy German-made Reckmann because of the price.

I am very impressed with the electric furlers made by the French-owned Wichard Group (https://www.wichardamerica.com/) under the brands Facnor and ProFurl. Amel is using the brand name ProFurl in all of its current models.
